An electrical engineer working for the U.S. Navy. A son who experienced firsthand the failures of a nursing home’s care. This is how Skil-Care began and why we haven't stopped innovating since.
Skil-Care was founded by Steve Warhaftig, an electrical engineer who spent more than 20 years with the U.S. Navy before turning his focus toward healthcare innovation. His motivation was deeply personal. After witnessing firsthand the challenges his aging father faced in a nursing home, including the devastating impact of pressure sores that ultimately contributed to his father’s death, Steve knew something had to change.
Working closely with nurses and frontline caregivers, he began developing practical medical devices designed to improve patient safety, comfort, dignity, and quality of life. He addressed the unmet needs that clinical textbooks rarely covered, but caregivers faced every single day.
Skil-Care combined compassionate, real-world product development with agile domestic manufacturing and scalable international partnerships. The result is something rare in the medical device world — a company that is both deeply personal and broadly capable.
While many competitors pursued scale through offshore manufacturing and relied on clinical studies, Skil-Care built its reputation differently — by focusing on the human side of patient care and innovating directly alongside the people who needed it most.
Every product we make is shaped by the people who use it — the nurses who need it to work on a rushed Tuesday morning, the family members who need to trust it completely, and the patients who deserve to feel genuinely cared for and comfortable.
"Focused on the human side of patient care — innovating directly alongside caregivers."
The Skil-Care WayDecades later, Skil-Care continues to differentiate itself through practical innovation, personalized service, and a deep understanding of the everyday challenges faced by both caregivers and the people they support.
From wound management to fall safety, from pediatric special needs to wheelchair accessories — every product carries the same belief Steve started with in 1978: people in care deserve better.
